Lady of the Lake
The TSS Earnslaw is the oldest, original, coal-fired passenger steamship in the Southern hemisphere and one of the most iconic sights on Lake Wakatipu.
Earlier this year, 22 tonnes of new hull plating and frames were put in to the mid-ships of the vessel, and next year she will be in the dry dock again to replace plating in the aft peak as part of Real Journeys ongoing programme of restoration.
See ing the Earnslaw cruising Lake Wakatipu is always a reminder of the enormous role the TSS Earnslaw played in the history of this area, both as the lifeline for the high country stations before the roads went in, and as a New Zealand tourism icon. We certainly feel a big responsibility to look after her and keep her in top condition whilst always retaining her authenticity,’ said Richard Lauder, Chief Executive of Real Journeys.
